1) Watch the two videos below. Take notes this time! I want to see that you recorded the work the "invisible teacher" is doing in BOTH videos.
2) Then, solve the following two problems on your own using models (just like the video). Then, solve the problem using the algorithm.
3 2/3 + 2 5/9 5 1/6 - 2 1/2

Welcome back, mathematicians!
Again tonight you'll need to watch the Educreations video first. WHILE YOU ARE WATCHING, you'll need to solve the problem! That'll be really easy. Just copy what I do on the video! Then, you'll solve the two problems listed below the video on a blank sheet of paper. Good luck!

Solve these problems on a blank sheet of paper after watching the video! Before you solve, remember to think: Am I being asked to add, subtract, multiply or divide? Take up as much space as you need to write algorithms and draw models.
- PROBLEM 1: Johnny loves hats and has collected them for years. 1/2 of his collection are baseball hats and 2/7 of his collection are fishing hats. What fraction of his hat collection are baseball hats or fishing hats?
- PROBLEM 2: Josue poured 3/4 of a glass of milk for breakfast. He quickly drank 3/8 of the glass of milk. How much milk does Josue have left to drink with the rest of his breakfast?

Hello, 5th Graders!
Remember that your PARENTS have the answers to tonight's math homework. Be sure to make corrections if you miss one or two! Here are some of the things we talked about today during class to help you determine whether you should multiply or divide in a problem:
Division Expressions:
Now, since it can be kind of tricky to determine which numbers are the totals, etc. Here are a few other questions you could ask yourself to help determine whether to multiply or divide:
Remember that your PARENTS have the answers to tonight's math homework. Be sure to make corrections if you miss one or two! Here are some of the things we talked about today during class to help you determine whether you should multiply or divide in a problem:
Division Expressions:
- Total / # of groups = # in each group
- total / # in each group = # of groups
- # in each group x # of groups = total
Now, since it can be kind of tricky to determine which numbers are the totals, etc. Here are a few other questions you could ask yourself to help determine whether to multiply or divide:
- Could I use repeated addition to solve this problem if one of the numbers were a whole number? If so, it's a multiplication problem.
- Will my answer need to be larger or smaller than the biggest number in my problem? Think about whether multiplying or dividing would get you a number bigger or smaller than the largest number in the problem.
- DON'T forget to make smart estimates! They are extremely important.

Math HW Directions: Tonight's math homework involves some choice. If you need more practice with place value and ordering decimal numbers, you should choose option 1. If you don't, you should choose option 2. Please make the BEST choice for you!
OPTION 1: Click on the three links below, and watch the math videos. Then answer the three question on a sheet of notebook paper:
- Order the following decimal numbers from least to greatest: 0.7 0.34 0.334 0.678
- Write the following number in expanded decimal form with parentheses: 304.456
OPTION 2: Solve the following MULTI-STEP word problems on a sheet of notebook paper:
- A salesman bought 48 backpacks for $576. He sold 17 of them for $18 online, and the rest were sold to a department store for $25 each. How much was the salesman's profit?
- A moving company is hired to take 578 clay pots to a florist shop. The florist will pay the moving company a $200 fee, plus $1 for every pot that is delivered safely. The moving company must pay the florist $4 each for any pots that are lost or broken. If two pots are lost, four pots are broken, and the rest are delivered safely, how much should the moving company be paid?
